DEADLY DOCOTORS By Former Lieutenant Governor Of NY, BETSY MCCAUGHEY
Emanuel: Believes in withholding care from elderly for greater good.
THE health bills coming out of Congress would put the decisions about your care in the hands of presidential appointees. They’d decide what plans cover, how much leeway your doctor will have and what seniors get under Medicare.
Yet at least two of President Obama’s top health advisers should never be trusted with that power.
Start with Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, the brother of White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel. He has already been appointed to two key positions: health-policy adviser at the Office of Management and Budget and a member of Federal Council on Comparative Effectiveness Research.
Emanuel bluntly admits that the cuts will not be pain-free. “Vague promises of savings from cutting waste, enhancing prevention and wellness, installing electronic medical records and improving quality are merely ‘lipstick’ cost control, more for show and public relations than for true change,” he wrote last year (Health Affairs Feb. 27, 2008).
Savings, he writes, will require changing how doctors think about their patients: Doctors take the Hippocratic Oath too seriously, “as an imperative to do everything for the patient regardless of the cost or effects on others” (Journal of the American Medical Association, June 18, 2008).
Yes, that’s what patients want their doctors to do. But Emanuel wants doctors to look beyond the needs of their patients and consider social justice, such as whether the money could be better spent on somebody else.
Many doctors are horrified by this notion; they’ll tell you that a doctor’s job is to achieve social justice one patient at a time.
Emanuel, however, believes that “communitarianism” should guide decisions on who gets care. He says medical care should be reserved for the non-disabled, not given to those “who are irreversibly prevented from being or becoming participating citizens . . . An obvious example is not guaranteeing health services to patients with dementia” (Hastings Center Report, Nov.-Dec. ‘96).
Translation: Don’t give much care to a grandmother with Parkinson’s or a child with cerebral palsy.
He explicitly defends discrimination against older patients: “Unlike allocation by sex or race, allocation by age is not invidious discrimination; every person lives through different life stages rather than being a single age. Even if 25-year-olds receive priority over 65-year-olds, everyone who is 65 years now was previously 25 years” (Lancet, Jan. 31).

MARCH ON SACRAMENTO AUGUST 28TH
And the impact has been profound. Nothing like this has ever been done before and Congress heard us loud and clear! The buzz is that lawmakers are terrified to go home over the August recess to a constituency that is active, vocal, and visible.
We may have them on defense regarding government run health care, but they will not go down without a fight. We must keep up the calls, emails, faxes, and visits to their offices. Make an appointment…talk to your representative or their staff. Or just drop by with a letter…it has a HUGE impact!!
And please save the date for a MASSIVE March on Sacramento August 28th (noon-5pm) to address the draconian environmental regulations that are systematically eliminating entire industries here in California (most notably at the moment is farming…due to water regulations we have 20-40% unemployment in the Central Valley!!!). More info to come shortly.
A Letter To Our Representatives Concerning Health Care From Murry Bulpitt:
I am deeply concerned about government healthcare reform. I have deeply held convictions against tax dollars being used to pay for abortion. I would like to be certain that President Obama’s plan would not deny medical care for the elderly. I am also worried that new healthcare proposals could move our country another step closer to implementing euthanasia and the rationing of health resources.
President Obama has repeatedly said that he wants to reduce the number of abortions in our nation. Recent polls show that the majority of Americans favor laws that prevent taxpayer funds from being used for abortions. Most Americans agree on is that there should be fewer abortions. My fear is that government mandates for abortion coverage will increase the number of taxpayer-funded abortions. By passing the President’s healthcare reform plan without specifically excluding abortion, Congress will actually be encouraging more abortions. Research shows that when abortions are publicly funded, the number of abortions go up. However, when public funding is reduced or is not available, there are fewer abortions.
It is important to make certain that healthcare reform plans will not force Americans with deeply held convictions about protecting preborn human life to pay for abortions. Also, medical professionals who do not want to provide abortions need protection. Abortion is not healthcare.
In the medical journal The Lancet (January 2009), the President’s special health policy advisor Ezekiel Emanuel wrote that if healthcare has to be rationed, he prefers the “complete lives system,” which “discriminates against older people.” It is frightening to think that in the near future, young healthy adults could be given preferential care over senior adults because they have more years of their life ahead of them. In an article written more than ten years ago for the Hastings Center Report, Dr. Emanuel suggested that health services should not be guaranteed to “individuals who are irreversibly prevented from being or becoming participating citizens.” He said “an obvious example is not guaranteeing health services to patients with dementia.” These are frightening thoughts from our President’s health policy advisor and good reasons to take plenty of time to carefully consider any healthcare reform.
Please oppose these liberal “reforms” of our healthcare. I am against the expansion of the federal government’s role and I do not want the government to interfere in medical decisions between me and my doctor.
It’s Up To You and There’s No Time to Wait! ACTION ACTION ACTION!!!
Our most recent protest at Sacramento was to tell Washington that we know that the nationalized health care will soon kill us- in more ways than one! From outrageous tax increases, to losing our options, to losing our lives as we have seen in so many instances in Canada and similar countries. Here is what you can do right now to take action and fight.
Go to teapartypatriots.com to get a list of phone numbers for the Labor and Education Committee, both the Ways and Means and Energy and Commerce committees in the House. You can ask the staff the questions on the site and record your answers on the form. TeaPartyPatriots.com is keeping track of the number of calls, e-mails, and faxes that are made to Congress. There you will also find a “Free Our Health Care Now” petition. Sign that too! THANK YOU PATRIOTS!
